open mouth, insert foot.

i'm an open-minded person. i'm fairly liberal. and, let's just put this out there, i'm pro-choice, too.

but, this isn't a political post.

no. instead, this post is a gripe about ignorant people.

i know we're all guilty of speaking before thinking, but damn...some people really shouldn't be allowed to articulate their feelings in a verbal manner. period.

let me just preface my rant with this:
my most recent hair cut was quite a change. we're talking major change.

i'm a funny person. sometimes, i really, really, REALLY wonder what others think or say about me. other times, i don't give a hoot. well, my super short pixie cut had me wondering what people thought.

every reaction i've gotten thus far has been nothing short of awesome: hot, sexy, amazing, fabulous, cute...those are just some of the words used to describe my look {i'm totally blushing}. i even had a friend tell another friend that i look just like my mother...that's an amazing compliment.

last weekend, i got the reaction i had been dreading {and, yes, i wondered when someone would say something}...

michelle, are you a lesbian?*
*and, just so we're clear, lesbian was NOT the term used

first of all, i'm not homophobic. not at all. i don't care who you love as long as you're loved and are being loved. of course, if you have romantical feelings about your mother or farm animals, well, then you've got issues. second of all, being questioned about my sexuality, while it caught me off guard, didn't really bother me..much. this brings me to my third point...

the fact that people will make an assumption about a person's sexuality based off of a hair cut? yeah, that bothers me.

it's a shame that some people are narrow-minded. it's a shame that some people still feed off of stereotypes and other asinine assumptions. good gracious...people really are ignorant, aren't they?

short hair does not equate to homosexuality. short hair on a woman exudes nothing but confidence, sass & spunk. so, ignorant people of the world, please think before you speak because hell hath no fury like a woman...with short hair.

Ignorance sums up this persons assumption of your personal life base upon your hair. You know what they say about assuming...That person clearly needs to get out more. Sass, spunk, and confidence rock that cute cut!!

I just can't BELIEVE how ignorant a person can be!!! Hair style ≠ sexuality. Alls I know is that I absolutely <3 your haircut and you totally own that cut! That person needs to get the ignorance slapped outta them! (not that I would ever slap anyone, but hypothetically speaking)

People are ignorant, and that makes me sad. The only thing that your pixie cut is, is all things fabulous!

Seriously, this post is awesome, and I am a brand new reader sent over today by R at Romancing Rachel.

First of all, that hair cut is STUNNING and if I didn't use my 'do as a security blanket (issues, anyone?) I would totally do it myself.

Second of all, it baffles me the situation one must have been raised in if they would actually allow such a comment to take on verbal form, rather than plague their own thoughts with such biased and narrow minded bullshit.

Ok, I'm done. I had to rant too.

Rock on, I think your look AND your writing is fabulous!

Uggh. I saw this on twitter too and I was so annoyed. I think you look so awesome and sassy with short hair! I love it!! I wish I had the guts to go that short!

First, I absolutely LOVE the hair! Second, I would have smacked the person saying that to you. Dummy. My girl A, when her hair was long enough to go without a wig [after freakin' chemo] -she worried about making sure she had on lipstick, long dangly earrings...because she didn't want people thinking she was a lesbian. Same things, she's not homophobic, just knows that people can be such assholes over such things.

I can't believe someone asked that because you cut your hair! I love it and wish I had the guts to cut mine short.

I'm going to be honest here, I'm a fan of short on just about all ladies! I'm more likely to think a negative thought about a lady with super long hair than short hair. And with all the wonderful ladies losing their hair to that ugly breast cancer? How could you ever think that about someone in 2011? Come on people, we have a half black president now. I don't know if that applies, but I hear people say that all the time so when in Rome...

that makes me so mad for you. there's no excuse for such ignorance. one's hair style doesn't define them. ugh.

sometimes I hate people.

I love your hair! You can totally rock the short cut. Experiencing the judgmental comments from others, although it may hurt or cause frustration, allows you to change the pattern. Because of you're experiences I'm sure that you will raise your children to be open-minded and embrace people for who they are, not how they look. Rock on mama!
