SMALL TALK SIX: not tonight, honey...

happy spring. happy saturday. happy small talk six. you know the drill, right? if not, click here, please. i'm too lazy to copy & paste paraphrase the 'rules.'

today's topic is a fun one.

let me just preface by saying that i think it's safe to say that all mothers out there will tell you that the chances of dancing the horizontal rumba on a regular basis post-children is slim to none. or, maybe it's just me. but, darn it, i'm still so effin' sleep deprived {and, yes, my children are now 9 & 6 years old}. and, because of that, i have excuses...a lot of them, but today, i'll just share...

6 excuses {i} have used to get out of sex
  1. i have a headache. yes, my head really does hurt and, no, that won't make it feel any better.
  2. i am too tired. "you're always tired," he says. yes. yes, i am. now leave me alone so i can sleep. because if i don't sleep, i get grouchy. and, if i'm grouchy then you really won't get any. {see, it's a vicious cycle.}
  3. i have to get up early. this one doesn't really work anymore because we get up at the same time {well, at least the alarm clocks ring at the same time, but the hubs is usually heading out the door as i'm heading into the shower}.
  4. can't you see i'm trying to watch t.v.?! yes, i realize i've seen this episode of the nanny 34675967 times, but it's my favorite {ha ha ha}.
  5. i think i hear one of the kids...they might need me. honestly, i can't hear the kids & they probably don't need me because they are either fast asleep or away or wherever, but still. i will use the kid excuse if i have to.
  6. no, not tonight. this isn't so much an excuse as it is a statement - no means no, ya dig?
what are some of your excuses? head over to momdot & share {because some of us might need new excuses...ha!}.

small talk six - i hate grocery shopping.

really, i do.

i especially hate it because it seems like we're always at super walmart {sundays are the worst!}. i suppose i could shop somewhere else, but i honestly get the most bang for my buck at super walmart. but {and there's always a but} they reel you in & you almost always end up leaving with much more than the, oh...say, SIX items that were on your list.

so, for today's small talk six session over at momdot, name six items that are on your grocery/shopping list every week. are you ready for my list? don't get too excited. it's pretty damn boring if you ask me. {make sure you've had some coffee before reading this because it's guaranteed that you'll yawn...}
  1. bread - i try to buy 'healthy' bread {like a honey wheat or 12-grain} but we recently fell in love with italian sammich bread. i honestly don't remember the brand of italian bread that we usually get, but imagine my surprise when i discovered that pepperidge farm makes an italian wheat loaf. it's very yummy. very, very yummy.
  2. milk - milk consumption has decreased in our home, but we still go through about a gallon a week {it used to be nearly three a week when the kids were much younger}. once upon a time we had our milk delivered, but it just became more cost effective to buy it ourselves from the store. we almost always buy organic milk, too. too bad walmart doesn't sell organic milk by the gallon...yet.
  3. eggs - i swear we just need to get a couple of chickens and keep them in our backyard. i buy eggs by the 18-pack. the 18-pack, people!
  4. coca-cola - we love caffeine. 'nuff said. side story: my husband is notorious for leaving the empty case of cokes next to the fridge...and i always chuckle whenever he reaches into that {empty} box for a coke and is suddenly let down. ha ha ha.
  5. coffee creamer - speaking of caffeine, we need something to pour into our cuppa every morning. we own a keurig & lve it. adam goes through a ridiculous amount of creamer. he prefers international delights french vanilla or caramel brownie whatever or the dulce de leche or whatever other sweet concoction they have. i'm still not over the fact that i can no longer get coffeemate's peppermint mocha creamer anymore. i'm so sad.
  6. lunch meat & cheese - so this is like a 'two for one' kind of thing. and, yes, i'm cramming one extra thing into a list of six. however, this goes with the bread...and lunch meat & cheese go hand in hand. all four of us pack a lunch. needless to say, we eat a lot of sammiches. sometimes, we buy our meat from the deli. other times, we just buy it off the shelf. we love roast beef & turkey. and, imagine my delight when my children declared that muenster cheese was their favorite {because i cannot stand american cheese}.
so, what's on your shopping list?

small talk six - reservations for six, please.

it's been a very long while since i last participated in momdot's small talk six! i'm excited to be joining in on the fun again...there are some very fun topics for 2010.

today's topic is...

6 famous people you would love to have dinner with
  1. bradley cooper - so i could just stare at him...and, quite possibly, eat him for dessert.
  2. dale earnhardt, jr. - i like fast cars, the color green {although red is my favorite} & the number 88. and, maybe, just maybe, he would let me shift his gears because i know how to drive a stick. {oh, my gosh people...get your minds out of the gutter!}
  3. kenny chesney - so i could smack him for not having virginia beach on his summer tour schedule this year; although, i suppose things could change, but still...he's not part of the country mega ticket package & i'm just a little bit peeved. summer isn't summer without a kenny show!
  4. dave matthews - i love jammin' to some dmb, but holy moly, mr. matthews, i can't understand a word you say when you talk in between sets. maybe a lovely dinner would help me understand you. and, maybe you can teach me a few of your funky dance moves, too.
  5. jimmy buffett - because it's 5 o'clock somewhere, i do indeed have a license to chill & i think i may have found that lost shaker of salt {salt, salt, salt, salt!}.
  6. jack johnson - *sigh* his music is dreamy. he is dreamy. i just adore him. oh, and maybe he could teach me how to surf.
what a selfish & scandalous list! a majority of these men are either smitten with someone or married. hell, so am i! but, a girl can dream, right? i'm also ashamed that this list is purely for my personal enjoyment only. i didn't invite any historical figures, political types, classy actresses or crazy divas. no presidents {current or ex}, no foreign dignitaries, no television news anchors and no pop stars. although it might be interesting to have lady gaga over {because, really, is that your poker face?}. but, if i invite lady gaga then i would surely have to invite perez hilton because they are like b.f.f.'s or something {and besides, i *love* gossip!}.

damn. that's two people too many. oh, well...the lady, perez & i could just have a g.n.o. {girls night out} or something.

if you could choose six famous people to invite over for dinner, who would YOU choose? head over to momdot & participate!

*if you click on each man's name you will be linked to a picture of that particular manly man.

SMALL TALK SIX - I Wanna Be A Rockstar!

It's been a long while since I last participated in Momdot's Small Talk Six. Small Talk Six is a way to spark conversation and creativity & help beat the weekend blogging blues (there is a different topic every Saturday). OR, in my case, it's just a way to avoid an early morning trip to Wal-Mart & Target and the impending yard work.

So, let's get on with today's Small Talk Six topic, shall we??

6 things you think would be great about being a rockstar (or just famous in general)

This should be fun...

  1. I would live in a BIGGER & CLEANER house...miraculously, there would be enough room for our crap because the house would have 329857436 rooms (enough space for me to rekindle my pack rat ways) and I wouldn't have to worry about cleaning up all the crap because I could afford to pay someone to do it. Bonus!
  2. I could dress like a ragamuffin (because seriously people, you know there are some famous guys & gals out there who have NOT ONE SINGLE CLUE when it comes to fashion...if you don't believe me, open up a People magazine) and people would think I'm fashion forward and hip...not a hobo.
  3. I'd have a personal chef. Wait, I already have one of those...the hubs! Ha ha ha! (Although I'm sure he feels more like a short-order cook & not some gourmet chef)
  4. Free shit...I mean, stuff. I suppose those on the up & up call it SWAG. Whatever. I mean, when us "normal" people have parties we put out goodie bags (usually for the kidlet set), but not the rich & famous...they get SWAG. Forget the party hats, cheap candy and high bounce ball, the rich get Gucci this, Prada that...all.for.free. They can afford it...WE should be the ones getting it for free! (Sorry, I haven't had my morning coffee yet!)
  5. Paparazzi - I would NEVER have to remember to take my camera anywhere to document what I'm doing, where I've been, what the kids are doing, where the kids have been, etc. because I'd have a throng of crazy people following me with their cameras! I'm sure it would get old (and sometimes those paparazzi people are psycho!), but I'm not gonna lie...I am all for letting someone else do the work for me. (Yes, I'm lazy.)
  6. I would drive a car that's a whole lot cooler than my 2001 Nissan Altima that has no car payment, bird shit on it constantly and scratches in the paint.

What do YOU think would be cool about being rich & famous - rockstar or not? Go to Momdot and participate in Small Talk Six and be sure to link your blog post with their Mr. Linky!!

SMALL TALK SIX - Shell sells seashells by the seashore...

How fitting...today's Small Talk Six topic is about the ocean. I am to name six things that I love or hate about the ocean. Seeing as how my family lives near the beach and is always at the beach (I'm actually in Hatteras, NC right now!) this is a pretty fun topic for me...
  1. I love how crystal clear the water is in the Caribbean - visions of the beaches in Playa del Carmen, Mexico are running through my head and the water is just as clear as a swimming pool. Seriously.
  2. I love the mystery that surrounds the ocean - there are so many different creatures living in our oceans...it's pretty darn fascinating!
  3. I love how the ocean commands respect - underestimate it's power and the consequences could be devastating.
  4. I hate how polluted our oceans have become.
  5. I love hearing the ocean's waves crashing on the shore.
  6. I love how the ocean provides my family with food - I mean, I can't complain when the hubs has a successful fishing trip!

SMALL TALK SIX - Frankly {insert name here}, I don't give a damn!

Welcome to today's edition of Small Talk Six hosted by the lovely ladies at MomDot. Today's topic focuses on six pieces of advice that you think are obvious, but some people just need to hear. Keep an open mind, don't hate and just let me have my say, will ya?
  1. I don't care what Jamie Lee Curtis said in "My Girl," but, yes, you really CAN wear too much blue eyeshadow.
  2. Just say NO to drugs - didn't you listen to Nancy Reagan back in the day? What? What do you mean you don't know who Nancy Reagan is?!
  3. It pays to look in a mirror before leaving the house...that way you can see how ridiculous you look when you go grocery shopping at Wal-Mart on Sunday afternoon dressed like a hooker.
  4. Buckle up for safety...click it or ticket...just wear your damn seat belt!
  5. It is NOT okay to fart at the dinner table and then laugh about it.
  6. Cough & sneeze in your elbow, please - because I don't want to be showered with your nasty germs.

What are YOUR six things? Go to MomDot and share!

SMALL TALK SIX - My Teachers Did WHAT?!

Today's Small Talk Six topic is...

6 things you always wondered about any of your teachers or professors when you were in school

  1. What kind of car did they drive - I don't know, but I've always been interested in knowing what kind of car a person drives. I guess it's just interesting to see who drives a clunker, who drives a fancy-schmancy car, who drives a truck, etc.
  2. What did they do for fun - I mean, it was all business and very little play in school, right? Of course, now that I'm older I've actually run into teachers out in public...more specifically, in bars. Ha ha ha. I guess that answers MY question.
  3. Why did they become a teacher - Was it their first career choice? Was it the easiest major in college? Was it due to a career change? Why, why, why? I almost became a teacher, but I dropped out of grad school. My heart just wasn't in it anymore.
  4. If they could have any other profession in the world besides teaching, what would it be - because you and I both know that even the most passionate & dedicated teacher has thought a time or two about what he/she would rather be doing as a career from time to time...
  5. Are they really THAT mean in real life - I mean, these are people who have friends and family outside of the classroom, right?
  6. How many red pens do they go through in one year - if I just think back to all of the papers I had graded from elementary school on through college, well, there was a TON of red ink used on just my things alone!

So, what are six things that you've ever wondered about your teachers/professors? Be sure to stop by Momdot to read more responses to Small Talk Six.

SMALL TALK SIX - What YOU Do That Makes ME Uncomfy...

So, I've ventured over to Momdot this morning and I've decided to participate in their Saturday meme which is called "Small Talk Six." Blogging tends to simmer down on the weekends (I know it does with me personally) so what a better way to keep things going each weekend than to talk about six little things...the topic changes weekly, so checkout Momdot or just keep checking back on my blog...

The small talk theme for today, April 25th, is this...

6 things other people do that make you personally uncomfortable

And, my six are as follows:
  1. Invasion of my personal space - ESPECIALLY if you are a complete stranger - I mean, when I'm at the grocery store or in line at the post office, please back the eff up off of me. If I'm in line or if I'm paying for something you do NOT need to be anywhere within at least two feet of me. Thank you.
  2. Seeing other peoples underwear - it's called underwear for a reason, people, because you wear it under your clothes. That being said, it really makes my skin crawl when I can see other peoples underwear. You know, guys who wear their jeans so low that you can see basically their whole butt hanging out of their pants or gals who bend over or sit down and have massive amounts of thong/g-string/granny panties showing. Ew, ew, ew.
  3. Thinking your you-know-what doesn't stink - is this one really worth an explanation? You know who you are and, I am sorry to tell ya, but it really DOES stink.
  4. Mouth noise of any kind - whether it be snoring, chewing gum, smacking your lips, chewing with your mouth open, slurping - yuck, yuck, yuck. Please don't do it around me. Thank you.
  5. Letting your kids run amuck in public - control them, discipline them, hold their hand, talk to them...do something! I don't let my kids act like banshees in public, so please don't let yours act that way. Besides, being run over by a runaway stroller that is being "driven" by a child who is too short to see over or even around the stroller isn't fun (true story).
  6. PDA - OK, so back in the day when hubs & I were dating we used to make out at the movies, but we were young and we also sat in the back row. These days some people take PDA to an even more extreme level...get a freakin' room! Less is more, people...less is more.

Whew...that was hard! So, what are your six for this week? Be sure to head over to Momdot to read what other mom bloggers are saying that people do to make them uncomfortable!
